Escape from Pakistan

Escape from Pakistan

by Mike Bond on July 6, 2018
This is an amazing story of how God was able to use our ministry and prayer team to rescue a persecuted Christian brother and sister from Pakistan. We are so thankful to have been a part of this story. Celebrate with this wonderful couple and with us as we get to see God working on behalf of his people.

Several years ago, in the course of our ministry to Muslims, we came across Sohail Peter, a pastor’s son and an evangelist in the villages around Lahore, Pakistan. He moved from village to village holding meetings and baptizing, then moving on quickly before the strident Muslims could catch up with him. We gave Sohail a website and attached our Urdu Internet radio station so that he could use it for ministry in Pakistan and abroad.
In time, we discovered that Sohail had a brother, Michael, who was married and also in the business of evangelistic crusades. Michael supported his family using his musical talent as a professional keyboard player. Sohail and Michael got onto our prayer team’s radar when their father needed surgery, but the family couldn’t afford it. One of our prayer team members (who requested to remain anonymous) caught the vision and financed the surgery and their dad survived.
As time passed, Michael was involved in a crusade on the Lahorawalakhoo colony of Lahore. The crowd was only about 10% Muslim, but God was blessing. Many were saved and healed. Then during the crusade a gang of Muslims raided the meeting and demanded that they cease, accusing them of disrespecting the Muslim’s prayer. However, a Muslim man who had been miraculously healed stood up for them and the gang left. A couple of days later, on the way home from the crusade, Michael was in the passenger seat on the way home from the colony when the gang attacked the van, shouting ‘Allah is great’ and wounded Michael. He survived only because the driver sped away. Ultimately charges were filed, though the death threats on him and his wife continued. His wife, Slomiat, pregnant at the time was attacked and left unconscious.
In the course of the investigation, the police reported to them that the ’gang’ was actually a part of a well established and violent terrorist organization. That organization issued an official ‘Fatwa’, a call for Muslims to kill Michael and Slomiat. So they were forced to sell everything that they had and flee Pakistan for Sri Lanka. However, once they arrived and applied for asylum, the U.N. High Commission for Refugees rejected their claim of persecution. They struggled financially to keep themselves there and were forced to hide out in a church compound and overstay their visas, making them criminals and putting them in danger of deportation back to Pakistan and the threat of death. They hid in Sri Lanka for some years and had two daughters born there. Again, our prayer team member, stepped up and sent funds through us to them, so they would have food to eat. It was a very difficult season for them, but time and again God provided through this generous believer, who stepped up to meet their need.
Finally, they discovered that the Canadian government had a program to allow people like them to immigrate and escape persecution. They applied and were accepted, but there was little time given for them to find the funds for airline tickets to escape. Again, our prayer team member stepped up and sent us the funds needed, which we urgently forwarded on to them. They recieved the funds in time and were able to escape to Canada, where they now reside. It has been an amazing journey to be a part of, as we seek to be a condiut for God to move all over the world. We are thankful God moved through our generous prayer partner, to help us be a vessel to help our fellow brother and sister.
